Hi! I’m Emma. I’m from the Bay Area, California, and I went to university in Boston with Kim where I’m majored in Linguistics & English. My two main hobbies are reading and knitting, and I love doing both of them while sitting in a coffee shop. I once got into a fight with a friend in elementary school about finishing one book before starting a new one (and I’m talking screaming in the middle of the classroom).

 

My favorite genres:

1. Historical fiction!! Literally any time period, although my favorite is probably anything set between 1900-1950

2. Autobiography/biography/memoir – I love reading people's stories in their own words, especially when they have a sense of humor

3. Mysteries/True Crime - anything about murder, especially if there's a puzzle to solve

4. General non-fiction - I really just love learning new things

 

Genres that haven’t hooked me yet:

1. High fantasy – I just haven’t read a high fantasy book that’s truly hooked me yet. (Harry Potter doesn’t count and I count Outlander as historical fiction with a fantasy element.) Maybe someday I’ll find The One.

2. Science fiction – Space freaks me out. “The Future” also freaks me out. There isn’t really much more to say. I've found the occasional stand-out, like The Martian and the Illuminae Chronicles. But otherwise, no thanks.
